Matt has been teaching brass to students of all ages and abilities the last for 26 years. From those just starting out to more experienced players, a wide range of students have benefited from his structured yet relaxed approach. Lessons focus equally on enjoyment and improvement with a mixture of melodies, studies and styles used to provide a varied repertoire. Through practical teaching Matt introduces a variety of styles and methods to encourage fluent reading and musicality.
Younger Students
Benefits of playing Brass instruments for younger students go far beyond the lessons and into the classroom and social life. Many skills for life such as time keeping and personal organisation can be enhanced through music lessons. Matt believes that playing a musical instrument will help find friends for life who all share their passion for music.
Matt has a wide range of experience with individual and group teaching of under 18s in both schools and youth ensembles. Many of his students have gone onto further education at both Universities and conservatoires or into various military bands. Matt has a wealth of knowledge from his group playing and uses this in his work with ensembles of differing styles and experience.
Pupils wishing to prepare for graded examinations are catered for, as well as those who wish to play for their own enjoyment.

Mature Students
In recent years the number of adults seeking help with their music making has increased enormously. Whether returning to playing after a lengthy break, or perhaps starting from scratch, Matt has experience of helping all ages. Matt also encourages his students to join local bands and ensembles where they can enhance their learning through working with other adult players. His love of a wide range of music genres makes him the perfect mentor, whether your passion is for Jazz, classical or wind/military band music, Matt can find style to suit you.
Theory Lessons
If it is the ‘nuts and bolts’ of music that you’d like to know more about then Matt will work with the student to increase their understanding through a series of theory lessons. This enables the student to gain a better knowledge of how music is constructed and why things work in the way they do.
